This website is now powered by WordPress. All the sites I maintain use this tool.

Some advantages of using WordPress are:

• It’s very easy to modify the menu structure
• It has some neat tools (i.e. plug-ins) to enhance the content of the website. For example,  a Calendar can be added to a site with little effort.
• I believe with a little training, folks who are not very computer savvy will be able to add Calendar events and Blog post to the site.
• Devices like the iPad and iPhone do not support Flash and some of the content (i.e. slideshows) on existing sites I’ve created are based on Flash.
• Colors for all content, menu, etc. can easily be changed with the Theme I’ve used.

Most important in the decision to change to WordPress was the availability of the Wheat Theme. Wheat offers a lot of flexibility that I did not find in other themes. The only other option would have been to write my own theme but this would have required a lot of PHP coding and bunches of time.

One site that I help maintain, vintagetek.org, uses a theme that was created by an ex coworker of mine who does a lot of website work. He told me he spent 200 man hours developing the theme before handing it off. He admits that it was not complete and as a result, I often have to spend time updating the code.
